Workday Absence Calendar Changes for Release 2025R1 (March 2025)
WORKDAY 2025R1 Absence Calendar Changes
The Workday 2025R1 release comes with a few functionality improvements for the Time & Absence process.
The ABSENCE app is being replace by two new modules – REQUEST ABSENCE and MANAGE ABSENCE.
You can find the two new apps by going in to workday > Menu (left side icon). If they are not there, you can use the "add apps" button to add them.

REQUEST ABSENCE allows employees to request time off with a new, pop-up calendar that functions very similarly to the old calendar.
To request time off, select the relevant days on the calendar and hit Continue to select the time off type you’d like to use.
Supervisors can enter time for one of their employees by selecting “Request on Behalf Of” at the top.
Employees can also view their time off balances by selecting “View Balances” at the bottom left.

MANAGE ABSENCE largely replicates the old Absence calendar with some minor adjustments. From this page, which now features Balances and Historical Absence Requests on the right, you can also request time off by clicking on the days you’d like to take and selecting “Request Absence” from the bottom left.
You can also see your team’s time off requests on the Manage Absence Calendar.

The big change with MANAGE ABSENCES is that the Correct Time Off functionality has been built into the calendar and is no longer a separate process. To correct previously entered time off, simply click on a green-labeled, already approved time off block and click Edit.
